Taverna Workbench Core is the underlying graphical engine and foundational architecture of Apache Taverna, an open-source workflow management system designed for scientists to build and execute complex data-analysis pipelines. Created by the myGrid project and later maintained under the Apache Incubator, Taverna removes the tedious manual parts of data science—such as cutting, pasting, and formatting disparate datasets—by providing a drag-and-drop Graphical User Interface (GUI). Though the project was officially retired in 2020 and its code remains available for archival purposes under the Apache License 2.0, the structural innovations of the Taverna Workbench Core continue to serve as a blueprint for modern scientific computing, particularly within bioinformatics, astronomy, and digital preservation. Core Architecture and the SCUFL Language
The Workbench Core functions primarily to interpret, construct, and edit workflows written in Taverna’s native dataflow language: Simple Conceptual Unified Language (SCUFL). Taverna Workbench Core 2.5.0 – Research Explorer
